At Oak Fostering, we provide long-term, therapeutic foster placements for children who can no longer live at home and, in many cases, will remain in foster care until adulthood.
The children we care for often have various levels of need and this is why matching to the right family is crucial. Many have experienced multiple traumatic events in their early lives, and these experiences have had a significant impact on their emotional development, ability to trust, and behaviour.
Why Some Children Can’t Return Home
Every child’s story is unique, but the reasons a child may need foster care can include:
Local authorities will always aim to keep families together where it is safe to do so. Social Workers work closely with parents to make home life stable and safe, with the goal of reunification wherever possible. But for some children, a return home is not a safe decission, and that’s when foster care becomes the next step.
Why Trauma-Informed Foster Care Matters?

For a child who has lived with uncertainty, stability is life-changing. With time, patience, and the right support, children in our care can:
Foster Care is challenging, but it’s also one of the most rewarding things you can do. The impact on a child’s future is immeasurable, and it starts with carers who are committed, resilient, and willing to learn.

Why Foster With Oak Fostering
When you foster with Oak, you’re not joining a system, you’re joining a family.
We’re a small, independent agency that works closely with just 25 fostering households at a time. And we keep it that way on purpose. It means we know every carer personally, every child by name, and we’re there when it matters, not just when the paperwork says so.
Many of us have fostered ourselves. So when we say “we get it”, we really do. We know the challenges, and we’ve felt the rewards. That empathy shapes everything we do.
